FPLFPA – GW19 Preview

by @RichP_FPL

Hello all

Another gameweek in the books as we move closer to the end of an era. The end of our incredible Manager sheets (courtesy of @Jameselapren) – but the start of playing the game on the new site! This is our last week with the sheets so hopefully we send them off with a bang! All the usual stuff today – Pick results and then the data, followed by the GW19 One Week Picks!

One Week Pick Results

Matteo Sereni – 3 points

Do we class this as a win? He got a save point, and was on for a clean sheet until Leon Knight shattered our hopes and dreams in the 73rd minute. I think we’re going to take this as a result and move on.

Julio Arca – 10 points

This one is definitely a result! Arca’s attacking threat was highlighted and he delivered for us with a goal, and then to top it off he got himself a couple of bonus points as well!

Andrejs Stolcers – 4 points

Another bonus point here gives us a return of sorts. I like Stolcers going forward as a cheaper alternative to Boa Morte.

Sergei Rebrov – 2 points

Our fail this week, somewhat surprisingly. Rebrov only got his appearance points and has also injured his wrist in the process! Rebrov – Viduka is seeming a popular move at the moment…

Let’s get into the data!

Positional Overall FPA Data

One Week Picks

Goalkeeper – Peter Schmeichel (£4.5m) – Che (A) – We want save points here and Schmeichel certainly gets those! He is also top for Bonus Points and 4th overall for Keepers. In respect to our metric, Chelsea give up an average of 4.3 PPG to opposing Keepers when they play at home. Villa Keepers average score of 4.8 PPG when playing away is joint 1st with Spurs. Chelsea are 14th in @MotleyBarnets table for goals scored at home. Villa have kept 3 clean sheets on the road (2nd behind United) and although I don’t expect a clean sheet, I like to think the Big Man will get us some Bonus/Save points.

Defender – Dean Gordon (£5.5m) – Eve (A) – Gordon should be in for points at both ends of the pitch in this one. Everton are 0.2 points outside of the green teams for points conceded to defenders at home and Boro defenders scoring the 3rd most FPL points on the road. Gordon is a well known “OOP” player so attacking returns are never far away. Everton are ranked 16th for goals scored at home with 13, whilst Boro have only conceded 9 goals away from home all season (ranked 2nd). I’m hopeful of either a clean sheet or an attacking return here, potentially both.

Midfielder – Christian Bassedas (£9.5m) – Ips (H) – Bassedas had a purple patch a few weeks back and although Newcastle haven’t been at it recently, this could be a match for Bassedas to shine. He’s Newcastle’s “Talisman” on 76 points (13% of Newcastle’s total FPL points) and tops the majority of their midfielder stats. Ipswich give up just under 21 PPG to opposition midfielders on the road. They have conceded 16 goals in 7 away games, with only 1 clean sheet. Home games are massively weighted here so we could see Newcastle bounce back.

Forward – Jason Euell (£7.5m) – Ful (H) – Shoutout to @FPL_Blade here – his main man is my pick of the week upfront! With everyone going for Mark Viduka this week, it seems like a bit of a cop out to back him here as well. I fancied a left field pick and looked through the data to see what I could find. My head was turned by Charlton playing at home to Fulham. Fulham concede the 2nd most FPL points to Forwards when playing on the road. Euell had a hot patch at home to start the season off and although he’s neck and neck with Bartlett for shots, he’s had far more headers and a much better win % for headers than him. With a bit of luck Super Jason Euell graces us with his presence this week!

Well that’s it for another week! I hope you guys find this useful and if so, please share it so that more people can have a look at the data and see what they can get out of it!

Cheers

Rich
